Miso Glazed Black Cod
Talk about melt-in-your-mouth good! Nothing beats black cod when it’s freshly caught that very day. My old go-to spot in Cali for the best catch is Captain Kidd’s in Redondo Beach—and I lucked out on my last visit. They had just gotten in fresh black cod, caught only two hours before I arrived!
I marinated the fillets in a rich miso glaze that gives the fish the perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavor. To finish, I topped it with a sprinkle of furikake and a handful of microgreens for a pop of color and texture.
This glaze is pure magic—it elevates any fish you pair it with, and it’s just as amazing on chicken or tofu. Give it a try and thank me later!
Miso Glazed Black Cod
Prep time: 30 mins
Serves: 3-4
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
INGREDIENTS
6 (6-ounce) black cod fillets
1/3 cup yellow or white miso
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
2 tablespoons mirin (rice wine cooking vinegar)
Toasted sesame seeds and micro greens, for garnish, optional
INSTRUCTIONS
Rinse fish with cold water and pat dry.
Blend or whisk together miso glaze ingredients. Place fish in a baking dish and pour the glaze over top of the fish.
Keep the fish marinating in refrigerator for anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours. The longer you wait the more flavor the fish will have.
Preheat oven to 375 and bake fish for 12-15 minutes depending on the thickness. To create an extra caramelization broil fish for 1-2 minutes on high.
Enjoy while fresh and hot!
